A question we frequently get asked is whether there is any way the process for applying for Social Security Disability benefits can be sped up. The answer is, in most cases that is not possible. As of now the wait times are extensive. For example the wait time for a hearing is about 1 year. There are certain situations in which your Request for Hearing can be processed faster. This is if you can prove that you have a “Critical case”. A Critical Case is a case that gets priority in one of three situations: 1. The Claimant has a terminal illness. 2. There is an indication that the Claimant is suicidal or homicidal. 3. There is dire need, which means that the claimant is unable to obtain food, medicine or shelter and proof of dire need (i.e., foreclosure or eviction imminent). Aside from these Critical Cases, there is little anyone can do to speed up this lengthy process.
